Deep Tissue Massage
focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue to relieve chronic muscle tension or injury.
Deep tissue techniques may result in some some discomfort and residual pain for a day or two following the treatment. The
massage releases toxins into the body from the
massaged tissue. You need
to drink plenty of water for a while after the
massage to flush your body of these toxins.
Most sessions will start with lighter pressure to warm the muscles and move
slowly into the deeper pressure. It must be done
this way because, if deep pressure is applied
immediately, the muscles will automatically
tighten for protection. This could result in more
pain and possibly injury, so the massage therapist
will instead begin with less pressure and slowly
start the deeper techniques.
Most deep tissue massages will use a minimum of oils or lotions, because there isn’t much
gliding or stroking of the skin.
